Kathmandu Valley Mountain Biking Tour

(based on 22 reviews)

kathmandu-valley-mountain-bike

Nepal is a magical kingdom that must be a mountain biker's dream. Many of the most popular hiking spots may be too difficult for mountain biking, but this tour may be just what you need. Kathmandu is in a valley at an elevation of 1350 meters. It is surrounded by hills that rise to a height of 2780 meters. These are part of the middle Himalayan hills, which are the "foothills" of the white peaks that are 8,000 meters high.

On this mountain biking tour from Kathmandu, you start out on these ridge-top trails that go around the rim of the valley. The tour lasts 5 days. A short bike ride from downtown Kathmandu takes you to a beautiful world of wooded slopes, small villages, and hidden temples. You ride on jeep trails and old single-tracks in front of the most beautiful Himalayan peaks, where 8 of the top 10 peaks in the world can be seen!

Program Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Nepal.

When you arrive at Tibhuvan International Airport, our guide will pick you up and take you to your hotel in the bustling Thamel district of Kathmandu. Depending on your arrival time, you can choose to relax for the next journey, see the city's attractions, or shop for adventure gear in one of Kathmandu's many adventure supply stores. We'll assemble our bikes and be ready for the journey in the afternoon.

Day 2 - Kathmandu to Kakani (2,100m).

After the meeting, we get our gear and packs ready and ride to Kakani. We go through the busy back streets of Thamel and then onto good, wide, hilly jeep trails that run along the Nagarjun forest. You'll be rewarded for your hard work with amazing views of the mountains. On the way, you can try the tasty trout fish that is raised in the area. This is why the route is called the "Trout Highway." We mostly ride uphill to get to Kakani, which is 2,100m above sea level. When we get to our destination, we can see the Ganesh and Langtang mountains and the Likhu Khola valley 1,000m below us.

Day 3 - Ride from Kakani to Budanilkantha (1,630m).

Passing through the Shivapuri National Park, take one of the best single tracks in the valley down to the Budhanilkantha Temple (Sleeping Vishnu). Budhanilkantha is a very interesting statue of Lord Vishnu from the 5th century. It is in the middle of a small pond and shows him lying down on a coil of giant king snakes. On the way, you'll be rewarded for your hard work with amazing views of Ganesh and Langtang Himal. Also, the hotel you'll be staying at in Budhanilkantha is a real resort set in a rural area with a culturally rich and naturally pristine environment. Its garden is home to nearly 75 species of birds and 2,000 flowering trees and shrubs.

Day 4 - Ride from Budanilkantha to Nagarkot (2,175m).

Today, we're going to Boudhanath, which is Nepal's biggest Buddhist stupa. As we follow the pavement past Boudhanath, we get a better look at Kathmandu. We keep riding until we reach the village of Sankhu, where we stop for lunch and look around this old town. From here, we ride our bikes along a jeep track road for two hours to get to Nagarkot, which is one of the most famous hill stations in the country. The views of the Himalayas from Nagarkot, especially from the Tower, are more than worth the hard climb. On a clear day, you can even see Mt. Everest! We stay at a guesthouse in Nagarkot from which we can watch the sunset.

Day 5 - Ride from Nagarkot to Dhulikhel (1,600m).

We will go downhill on both single tracks and jeep tracks. As we go down, we pass through small farming villages and terraced paddy fields. We cross the main road and walk 20 km uphill to get to Dhulikhel, where we will spend the night at a hotel. Here is where we eat lunch, and in the afternoon, those who still want to ride can check out the nearby trails or the well-kept town.

Day 6 - From Dhulikhel to Balthali, take a ride (1,445m).

From Dhulikhel, we ride to Balthali on a flat, mostly paved road. We are welcomed to the traditional village, where the houses have old designs and there are many temples. This is definitely a great place to see the sights. The farms and greenery make our ride very nice. The village of Balthali is hidden behind the Panauti forest. It is known as a place with a lot to offer in terms of nature and culture. From the cozy hotel where you'll be staying, you'll be able to see a green terrace field, big hills all around, and faint traces of the Himalayas to the north.

Day 7 - Ride to Lakure bhanjyang to (1,545m).

We leave Bhaktapur and head north-west on jeep tracks and single tracks. On our way to Godavari, we pass paddy fields and the beautiful and peaceful Phulchowki forest. In its famous gardens, the Godvari Botanical Garden has many different kinds of plants, both from far away and from the area. It has been very important for scientific research and observation, and both locals and tourists like it because it has a nice landscape and is surrounded by a natural forest that never dies. You can find peace and relaxation in Godvari, which also has a lot of places to hike, like Phulchowki hill, which is the highest point in the Kathmandu valley..

Day 8 - Ride from Lakure to Kathmandu (1,345).

We ride our bikes on some exciting trails near Godavari and then on some great off-road trails close to Kathmandu, which is a nice way to end our exciting biking trip.

Day 9 - Departure from Nepal.

Today we will take you to the airport to catch your flight out of Nepal. Alternatively, if you'd like to stay longer, we may make additional travel arrangements to assist you continue your cycling experience.
