Yak Attack Mountain Biking Race 2023

Yak Attack Race

The Yak Attack race is the highest mountain bike race on Earth as it traverses through Nepals grand Himalayan mountain range. It starts out on the World famous Annapurna Circuit trek, taking us up over Thorong La pass at 5416 M. From there it goes down to 2800m above sea level over 8km.

Altitude, temperature extremes, harsh living conditions and a very tough terrain make Yak Attack one of the hardest mountain bike races around… If you’re up for an adventure, have mental grit & physical fitness, then why not have an adventure of a lifetime and join us this year?!

Program Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Nepal.

Arrival in Nepal and hotel transfer.

Day 2 - Final Registration for the race.

Today is our final registration day for the race.

Day 3 - Travel to Besisahar.

Morning we travel to Besi sahar by bus/ jeep. Relaxation at the Besisahar.

Day 4 - Race Stage 1 - Besi Sahar Loop

Stage 1 is going to get your legs fired up and ready for the ‘proper’ mountain days to follow!

Date: 13th November 2022

Distance: 33km

Climbing: 1190m

Max Elevation: 1611m above sea level

Temperatures: 25°C to 30°C

Day 5 - Race Stage 2 - The Grueller

For 2022, we’re going back to the super tough Besi Sahar to Chame stage. Starting at 800m and finishing at 2700m above sea level, this stage takes the best of riders between 4 and 5 hours, so be prepared for a long hard day in the saddle.

Date: 14th November 2022

Distance: 60km

Climbing: 2700m

Max Elevation: 2700m above sea level

Temperatures: 25°C to 5°C

Day 6 - Race Stage 3 - Up, Up and Away…

We’re at altitude now so any riding is going to be tough on the legs and lungs. We’re not about giving you an easy ride however and are planning a detour off the main track to Ghyaru at a height 3730m before descending back into Manang.

Date: 15th November 2022

Distance: approx 40km

Climbing: approx 1500m

Max Elevation: 3540m above sea level

Temperature: 10°c to 0°c

Day 7 - Rest Day

Today is a rest day in Manang for acclimatisation purposes. There are lots of short hikes in the area to take in the amazing mountain views, and many coffee shops and bakeries to refuel for the ensuing pass crossing. Be sure to try the amazing apple pie’s on offer in one of the rooftop cafe’s, or maybe have a trip to the local cinema (which will be nothing like you’ve experienced before!).

Day 8 - Race Stage 4 - Into thin air.

The shortest stage distance wise, at only 16km, but on average it takes the riders longer than the 64km for stage 2!! Altitude is the biggest obstacle today with riders finishing at 4450m above sea level. Snow and severe cold are also distinct possibilities during this stage.

Date: 17th November 2022

Distance: 16km

Climbing: 1264m

Maximum Elevation: 4450m above sea level

Temperatures: 10°C to 0°C

Day 9 - Race Stage 5 - The Pass

The stage everybody fears. A 5km hike-a-bike starting in the dark, through possible snow and freezing temperatures takes the riders to the highest point of the race, Thorong La Pass at 5416m. The ride down from the pass should be mainly snow free, and what better way to enjoy this than by having an epic timed enduro section from the one of the highest passes on Earth! Enjoy one of the best 20km descents of your life, whilst racing against the clock!

Date: 18th November 2022

Distance: 25km

Climbing: 1036m

Max Elevation: 5416m above sea level

Temperatures: -20°C to 10°C

Day 10 - Race Stage 6 - Kagbeni Loop

It’s going to be an awesome day of dry and dusty trails, with a whole heap of single track to take you around the outer limits of lower Mustang. There’s additional bonus that you get to spend 2 nights in the enchanting medieval village of Kagbeni !!

Day 11 - Race Stage 7 - To the finish line!

We’re throwing in a whole bunch of singletrack on the last day to spice things up a bit. We’re keeping these trails to ourselves until the last moment but be assured that you’re not going to want this final day to end!!

Date: 20th November 2022

Distance: 58km

Climbing: 1040m

Max Elevation: 2822m above sea level

Temperatures: 0°C to 15°C

Day 12 - Group Ride

With the racing done and dusted, you can look forward to a relaxing 35km group ride down to the end of the trail, where a coach will be waiting to transfer them to Pokhara for the post-race celebrations and prize giving.

Day 13 - Short flight to Pokhara.

Free day in Pokhara.

Day 14 - Travel back to Kathmandu

Travel back to Kathmandu.

Day 15 - Departure from Nepal.

Departure from Nepal
